Who Is (And Isn't) Up For An Emmy?
Which stars from THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, AS THE WORLD TURNS, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL and GUIDING LIGHT are one step closer to a Daytime Emmy nod? Who is not? Soaps In Depth has the highlights, plus an inside look at the early faves.
The In Depth Story: The pre-screen nominations comprised of the top two actors from each soap, as voted on by castmates - represent those who hope to make the list of actual nominees, to he announced March 2. here is the rundown, including an industry insider's viewpoint from Michael Bruno, manager to many daytime stars.
Pre-noms: ATWT's Martha Byrne (Lily) and Manna West (Carly), B&B's Susan Flannery (Stephanie) and Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke), GL's Beth Ehlers (Harley) and Kim Zimmer (Reva), Y&R's Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki).
Bruno's buzz: "I'd love to see Katherine Kelly Lang finally get on [the ballot]; she holds her own against the likes of Flannery. Melody is another one who doesn't get the credit she deserves. Maura and Martha are always strong contenders, and Ehlers did heartbreaking stuff, especially at thewedding. I cound see Zimmer walking away with the Emmy"
Pre-noms: ATWT's Roger Howarth (Paul) and Michael Park (Jack), B&B's Ronn Moss (Ridge) and Jack Wagner (Nick), GL's Grant Aleksander (ex-Phillip) and Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus), Y&R's Eric Braeden (Victor) and Christian Jules LeBlanc (Michael).
Bruno's buzz: "This is a hard one. Eric Braeden did great work, as did Christian LeBlanc. Ultimately, it's Grant's [to win], but I think you'll see Jack Wagner, who's a client of mine, on the ballot. He has a lot of friends [and thus possible voters] at ABC."
Pre-noms: ATWT's Cady McClain (Rosanna) and Colleen Zenk Pinter (Barbara), B&B's Lesley-Anne Down (Jackie) and Schae Harrison (Darla), GL's Crystal Chappell (Olivia) and GinaTognoni (Dinah), Y& R's Joan Van Ark (ex-Gloria) and Jeanne Cooper (Katherine).
Bruno's buzz: "Crystal may beat out Cady [for a nod I because I'm sensing an 'up swing' for GL I like Jeanne Cooper, but it works against her that the story with Arthur didn't work. Joan Van Ark was amazing and I really think it's between her and Gina Tognoni, who has surprised a lot of people. She 'gets' Dinah. You know that she has been hurt, you know her motivation."
Pre-noms: ATWT's Hunt Block (Craig) and Grayson McCouch (Dusty), B&B's Sean Kanan (Deacon) and Winsor Harmon ([home), GL's Justin Deas (Buzz) and Paul Anthony Stewart (Danny), Y&R's Greg Rikaart (Kevin) and Kristoff St. John (Neil)
Bruno's buzz: "Winsor and Sean have done their best work ever, and Greg Rikaart has gotten consistent buzz. I'd like to see Hunt Tom Pelphrey will walk the ballot; probably Hunt win it; he is very much the role and does a grea job with it."
Pre - noms: ATWT's Jesse Suffer (Will) and Agim Kaba (Aaron), B&B's Drew Tyler Bell (Thomas), GL's Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan) and John Driscoll (Coop), Y&R's Michael Graziadei (Daniel) and David Lago (ex-Raul)
Bruno's buzz: "There are a lot of good people in this category, and I think story is a very strong factor [when the pre-nom reel is judged]. That's why I think Tom Pelphrey will walk away with [the win]. He is amazing and so interesting to watch.
Pre-noms: ATWT's Jessica Dunphy (Alison) and Jennifer Ferrin (Jennifer), B&B's Kayla Ewell (Caitlin), GL's Crystal Hunt (Lizzie) and Stephanie Gatschet (Tammy), Y&R's Ashley Bashioum (Mac) and Christel Khalil (Lily)
Bruno's buzz: "With [three-time winner] Jennifer Finnigan (ex-Bridget, B&B) gone, it opens up the race. I can see Christel Khalil on the ballot; probably Hunt and Dunphy, too."
