Press: I Wanna Be A Soapstar (21)

Ready For Their Close-Up...

Tuesday, August 14, 2007

It only looks like Cameron mathison (Ryan, ALL MY CHILDREN) is soap-hopping over to DAYS OF OUR LIVES. In reality, the AMC star is merely visiting the Salem sets on the Sony lot in Culver City, CA, in order to reprise his role as host of SOAPnet's I WANNA BE A SOAP STAR. Along with judges Hogan Sheffer (DAYS' headwriter), Mary Beth Evans (Kayla, DAYS; ex-Katherine, GENERAL HOSPITAL) and talent manager Michael Bruno, Matheson will test 10 hopefuls that are each hoping to become the next DAYS contract player! I WANNA BE A SOAP STAR, which is executive produced by Eric Schotz and Lisa Bourgoujian, debuted on Tuesday, August 14, at 8 PM (PT/ET).

How has the reality series changed since its inception? "The first season's challenges were a little bit exaggerated, which made for good reality TV," says Mathison. "Now [the challenges] are more realistic. They're more accurate as to what actors an daytime might really encounter."

Bruno's Simon Cowell-like comments aren't the only thing that SOAP STAR has in common with AMERICAN IDOL: This time, fans can get in on the voting and will help decide who will become the next day-time star during the shows live finale on Tuesday, October 16! "The live finale will be great," Bruno predicts.
